We are always looking for highly motivated people! Positions are available for postdocs, graduate researchers, research associates and other staff members. To apply for a specific position (see below), please send an email with the subject IPMB_application_WhatPosition_YourName directly to Chuan Ku, briefly mentioning how you knew about our lab and describing your research interests, experience, skills, future plan, and contact details of one or two referees. A single PDF should be attached that includes your CV, and, if relevant, transcripts, degree certificates, thesis title and abstract, and proofs of relevant skills and experience.

English is the working language in our lab and institute. Mandarin skills are not required, but there are free classes on campus for those interested.


Postdoc

Postdoc positions can be funded by the options below. All applicants will be encouraged to apply for a competitive fellowship. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an onsite interview with funded travel and accommodation.

Staff: lab manager/research associate/bioinformatician

From time to time, we have long-term core- or project-funded positions for people with a PhD or master’s degree. Currently we are actively looking for bioinformaticians. The ideal candidates should have experience in analyzing sequencing and omics data in the fields of evolutionary biology, genome regulation and/or ecology.

PhD

As the national research institution, Academia Sinica offers PhD and master’s programs in collaboration with major research universities in Taiwan. Research internships, exchanges and collaboration

There are quite some programs available for short-term research stays in our lab. Below are just a few.

Internships

  • Taiwan International Graduate Program International Internship (TIGP-IIP)
    • Duration: 2-3 months between May and September (summer internship) or February and April (spring internship)
    • Eligibility: undergraduate/master’s students or recent graduates
    • Benefits: airfare, accommodation, stipend (~1000 USD/month)
    • Application deadline: February 29 (summer internship)
  • IPMB Summer Internship
    • Duration: 2-3 months around July and August
    • Eligibility: undergraduate students
    • Benefits: accommodation, stipend
    • Application deadline: April 30
  • DAAD RISE Worldwide
    • Duration: 2-3 months between June and October
    • Eligibility: undergraduate students enrolled at a German university
    • Benefits: travel costs, insurance, stipend, participation in an alumni meeting

  • NSTC-DAAD Taiwan Summer Institute Program
    • Duration: 2 months (August and September)
    • Eligibility: undergraduate/master’s/PhD students or graduates who are German nationals or enrolled at a German university

    • Application deadline: mid-February
  • NSTC Undergraduate Research Grant (國科會大專學生研究計畫)
    • Duration: 8 months (July-February)
    • Eligibility: undergraduate students enrolled at a Taiwanese university
    • Benefits: stipend (~200 USD/month)

  • NSTC International Internship Pilot Program (IIPP)
    • Duration: 2-3 months (throughout the year)
    • Eligibility: undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at a non-Taiwanese university

Visits/collaboration

  • EMBO Scientific Exchange Grants
    • Duration: 1 week to 3 months (can be extended to 6 months)
    • Eligibility: researchers at any stage in their career
    • Benefits: travel costs, stipend (68 EUR/day)
    • Application deadlines: accepted throughout the year
  • Taiwan International Graduate Program-X (TIGP-X): co-supervision of PhD researchers by a home university (outside Taiwan) and AS
    • Duration of research stay at AS: 3 months to 3 years during the PhD research
    • Stipend during research stay at AS: ~20,000 USD/year
    • Benefits: travel costs and other benefits of regular PhD researchers at AS
  • Funded visits for PhD or postdoc interviews at our lab
    • Duration: 5 days or longer
    • Benefits: travel costs (up to 1,800 EUR covered by the EMBO Global Investigator grant)
